Lighting Retrofit

m2e is currently performing a lighting retrofit at the ICON Condominium in South Beach. The retrofit will consist of replacing all of the building’s 50W halogen bulbs with more efficient 6W LED bulbs. The retrofit will reduce the total electrical power consumption for the building not only by lowering the total wattage for lighting but also by reducing the amount of heat generated by the lights, thus lowering the electrical power consumption of the air conditioning system. Halogen bulbs produce a lot of heat and tend not to last very long. LED (Light Emitting Diode) lamps are a fruit of the latest lighting technology, which was first introduced in the automotive industry. They produce insignificant amounts of heat and have a life span of up to 50,000 hours. Another benefit of LED lighting is the reduction of man hours spent on replacing the halogen bulbs. The retrofit is expected to provide savings of up to 25% of the original electrical bill. With its ability to perform Energy Modeling, m2e plans on repeating this success story in other commercial structures throughout the community.
